Implants
Implants
Dental implants

An implant is an artificial screw-shaped device which is surgically fixed into the jaw. Then an artificial tooth or prosthesis is fitted on top of it, replacing missing teeth. Often our team require several appointments for adequate planning, design and fitting of these implants.

Nunyara Dental use implants made from titanium, a safe material that allows the bone to grow around it with high success rates.

Basic check-up

When you go for a dental check-up, one of our dentists will start by asking questions about your general health and medications. Many health conditions affect your oral health and vice versa. And some medicines can affect your mouth or need to be taken into consideration before treatment.

At Nunyara Dental, we inspect each tooth using small instruments inserted into your mouth, such as a mirror and probe (a fine, pick-like tool). Our dentists look for issues such as tooth decay, gum disease and other conditions during this examination.

Soft tissues like your gums, tongue, lips and cheeks are also routinely inspected and screened for other possible problems like oral cancer.

If a suspected dental problem is difficult to see, the dentist may take x-rays of your mouth to identify any issues. If a problem does happen to exist, we’ll explain the treatment options and give you an estimate of the cost and likely waiting time.

Fissure sealant

Sealants protect your teeth from decay and cavities, covering the deep grooves or fissures, commonly found in molars and premolars.

At Nunyara Dental, our sealant is a liquid solution which we paint onto the biting surface of a cleaned tooth. It then sets as a durable plastic material and forms a physical barrier stopping food and other bacteria from collecting in the fissures of the tooth, causing decay.

Scale and clean

Scaling and cleaning involves one of our dentists removing any built-up debris from your teeth. This can include food particles, soft plaque (bacterial growth) or hard calculus, which are the leading causes of gum disease.

To help to treat and prevent gum disease, one of our friendly dentists or hygienists will clean and polish your teeth using a rotating brush and polishing paste.

Fillings

For the teeth which have caused a cavity, fillings are fitted. At Nunyara Dental, our patients are treated with dental fillings after the dentist has cleaned and removed the decay from the affected tooth.

A variety of materials are available for filling the cavity. You’ll be advised the most suitable material based on the size, shape and location of the required filling. We use a tooth-coloured filling material, which restores the aesthetic appearance of the tooth, as well as its shape and function.

Root canal treatment

Extensive trauma or decay can irreversibly damage the pulp (or nerve) of a tooth, which can lead to infection. In this situation, our dentists may recommend a root canal treatment.

A root canal involves removing and refilling the damaged pulp from a tooth. The interior of the tooth is cleaned and dried, then packed with a filling material all the way to the end of the root. The biting surface is then replaced by a crown.

Our team may need multiple appointments to perform the treatment in stages.

Tooth removal (extraction)

Here at Nunyara Dental, we aim to preserve natural teeth. However, severely damaged or decayed teeth may need to be removed.

Often, wisdom teeth are removed as they can cause pain, discomfort and can contribute to various dental problems elsewhere in the patient’s mouth. When extracting a tooth, we typically use a general anaesthetic on the patient.

Restoring damaged teeth

Our dentists can suggest various treatments to restore your damaged teeth. These treatments help restore the appearance, shape and function of your teeth. They include:

Bonding
Chipped, gapped, discoloured or oddly shaped teeth can be treated with bonding. A tooth-coloured resin filling is applied to achieve a natural look to the affected tooth.

Veneer
A veneer is a thin layer of resin or porcelain that’s permanently glued to the front of the tooth. Sometimes the tooth needs to be slightly ground down to allow space for the veneer.

Crown or Onlay
These are caps that are permanently cemented or bonded to a tooth. Crowns cover the whole tooth and can be porcelain, metal, or a combination of the two, depending on the area, aesthetic or functional needs. Onlays only partially cover the tooth and may be used if full coverage is not essential.

Dentures

Dentures, also known as ‘false teeth’, are artificial teeth that replace some or all of your natural teeth, which you can remove at will.

A denture can be made while you still have some of your teeth, then fitted on the day your teeth are removed. Alternatively, dentures can be made a few months after teeth are removed.

At Nunyara Dental, we recommend removing and cleaning your dentures every day and to not sleep with them in.

Mouthguards

Mouthguards are protective devices which cover the teeth and gums, preventing injury. They’re frequently used while playing sport to avoid damage from accidental or deliberate knocks to the face.

The most effective mouthguards are individually designed by a dentist to fit your teeth. Nunyara Dental take impressions of your teeth and make a well-fitting, comfortable mouthguard for your protection.

Invisalign
Invisalign
FREE consultation

Invisalign is the cosmetic revolution which gets rid of that metal teeth grin.

Invisalign’s removable aligners are designed with comfort in mind. Unlike traditional braces that remain on your teeth throughout the lengthy treatment, Invisalign braces may be removed for cleaning or eating. Meaning you can eat, brush and floss as you usually do, without worrying about getting food trapped in wires and brackets or damaging the braces.

Made from soft plastic, the aligner itself does not cause discomfort or irritation to your gums and lips, the way metal braces do.

Invisalign offers a viable modern alternative for correcting a variety of teeth misalignment issues. While it isn’t designed for severe orthodontic cases, Invisalign treatments are known for handling a range of mild to moderate bite problems. This includes gappy teeth, overbites underbites, crossbites, and crowded and unevenly spaced teeth.

Invisalign’s removable aligners offer a simpler way to clean your teeth regularly, making oral hygiene easier to maintain. Compared to traditional braces, which frequently trap food debris in-between the wires and brackets, encouraging bacterial growth, Invisalign aligners removes that risk altogether.

For more information on how you can straighten your teeth with clear, transparent braces, book a free consultation with Dr Claudia Rodriguez Nunez at Nunyara Dental.
